Reply Laizerdisc September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm It’s been a while since I’ve read this book, I only read it once when I was 17 or so and I’m long overdue for a reread, but my interpretation then was that Cormac was trying to boil down all the bloodshed and genocide and evil America was built on into one story. It’s so horrific and depraved, uncaring and almost gratuitous, it’s difficult to read. But so is the history of America the more you dive into it. Reply John Bradford September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm This guy looks like a cross between Dan Stevens and Bradley Cooper. Reply oregon jackalope September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm If this were ever made into a film, The Judge hands down should be Ralph Ineson. Reply Rishabh Aniket September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm This review needs an upgrade…..ARE YOU LISTENING CLIFF? Reply TheGreatOne September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm Hey there awesome people. Here's a recommendation , go watch "bone tomahawk" . Let me know what you thought. Reply wlljohn bey September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm The writing is punctual but barely punctuated. Tough reading. Hell, I might argue that Invincible is the Blood Meridian of superhero comics. Reply Peter Hippard September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm It's the never ending description of people and land that is paced with intensity and grit and beauty that is missing here. Could you not have read a few lines, or would that violate copyrights? IMHO – Such a reading, however select, is what is missing from this otherwise fine review. Reply Javier September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm I just picked it up in spanish and BOI is it brutal. Instant classic in my mind. Reply Bill Keon September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm His prose is amazing. I wouldn’t care about the plot or theme, just so I could drink in the prose. On par with the best I’ve ever read…Proust, Mann, Nabokov….. One third through the book so far. Feels like Good, Bad and the Ugly in the bleakness in the landscape and characters Reply 1 3 Strange September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm The Mathew Modine vibe : I dig Reply SavoPaddy September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm What a breathtaking book. The judge does not abide. More Brando than Woody I would say 🙂 Colonel Kurtz on steroids. Any thoughts on the end? and the cipher at the end? Just found your videos, love what you are doing. I am an Author myself & had yet to write a novel…until I read this magnum opus. I had to write something of worth & I aspire to one day write something as worthy as this mans books. I’m currently reading The Stonemason. That & The Gardners Son are the only books I have not read by McCarthy. You did an amazing job reviewing this book, so much so that I will be watching all of your reviews. Thanks for doing these. The time you put in was well worth my time & time is not something I like to waste, my new friend. My name is Reuben Joseph Beeman & I can assure you that I look forward to watching your take on one of my books some day. Reply Totally Not Alpharius September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm In high school I wanted to do a book report on this because my dad had recently read the road and I thought I’d be smarter than my classmates. I presented my choice to my teacher and she said “ no no no no absolutely no@ Reply guth September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm I love how you talk about how the writing itself is violent. That's what I think draws me back every time to read it again. You just can't hold on to any point of the narrative for any length of time, and the Kid is just so far away… Reply Alex Ginsberg September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm Greatest American novel ever written. Wouldn’t mind a part two to this one. Another great video, thanks Cliff Reply Albert Gershwin September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm I read this when I'm in my 10th grade in 2016. Had still left last 100 pages of it to finish then I finally completed it yesterday. The last 100 pages of Meridian is just one of the examples of pure literature genius you'll have ever read & witness imho. The Judge is truly one of the most intimadating, absolutely brutal protagonist I've ever read😨😨. This is true. This is absolutely unfilmable. And to also get an actor to play The Judge with such level of evil to be displayed is.. unimaginable. My top choice for The Judge is always*Marlon Brando*. His role in Apocalypse Now as Col.Kurtz would've been displayed here again🤯🤯. My second choice for him would've been*Phillip Hoffman Seymour*. Idk if any great modern directors can pull this off at all as Meridian greatest strength is in its silence & a director should use his actors incredible acting prowess through silence with breathaking desert landscapes as framing devices. Only Kubrick would've made it justice… especially that ending… I bet he'd have made that ending one of the most iconic scene in the history of cinema🙌🏻🙌🏻 Reply Michael Williams September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm First read this 5 years ago and just finished it for the second time last week. One of those books that is enhanced with multiple readings in my opinion. Reply Laura Salo September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm Do one's eyebrows retain functionality should he survive a proper scalping? Reply TheBrandon425 September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm Excellent review. Just finished this book about 5 hours ago. All aspects of mortality, and the life therein, are presented in a beautiful, unforgettable poetic vision. Reply E Fleisher September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm "When God made man the devil was at his elbow… a creature that can do anything. He can make a machine. A machine to make the machine. An evil that can run itself a thousand years, no need attended." Reply E Fleisher September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm My two favorite books of all time are The Crossing and Blood Meridian, for completely different reasons. The Crossing gets me pumped for a good tour through some empty lands sleeping under the stars and campfires, and Blood Meridian is like reading an archetypal Boschian hellscape set in an equally archetypal American Southwest.Only book I've read that touches them is the recent Hurricane Season–which I discovered through this here channel right here 😉 Reply musicfilmhead90 September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm Just finished the novel. One of the most powerful reads I've had. Thank you very much for the recommendation. Reply Steve Jones September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm Thanks for this review. It prompted me to buy the book. Glad I did. The prose is mind blowing. And his command of the English language, his vocabulary etc. Reply Travis Davis September 20, 2022 - 11:25 pm This review is amazing!
